Maintenance and care of the D6114 diesel engine
1. Maintenance of the fuel system
The quality of diesel is a key factor in determining the service life of an engine. For this reason, high-quality diesel should be selected as much as possible.
After the engine is turned off every day, the fuel tank should be filled with fuel. Before refueling, check whether the fuel line of the fuel tank is clean. Drain the accumulated water from the diesel fuel tank and oil-water separator. It is advisable to use the dedicated filter elements from the designated manufacturers as much as possible and clean and replace the filter elements in a timely manner according to the maintenance schedule. The fuel used must meet the performance index requirements such as viscosity, cetane number, sulfur content, water and sediment.
Maintenance of the lubrication system
The main task of the lubrication system is to supply lubricating oil to all moving friction surfaces, form an oil film, and reduce part wear. Before starting the engine every day, the change in the engine oil level should be checked. If there is any oil loss, it should be added to the oil level on the dipstick in time. In winter and summer, different viscosities of engine oil should be used strictly in accordance with the engine regulations, and the engine oil should be replaced regularly. During the running-in period, the engine oil must be changed in a timely manner as per the engine maintenance instructions. Subsequently, depending on the requirements of the working environment and intensity, the engine oil can be changed every 200 to 300 working hours. Each time the engine oil is changed, the oil filter element should also be replaced simultaneously.
The common misunderstandings in the use of lubricating oil that should be particularly noted are:
1. Circulate and add lubricating oil or mix with oil of the same quality for use.
2. The viscosity of the selected lubricating oil is either too high or too low. For the D6114 engine, it is recommended to use engine oil that meets the following standards: 15W-40CF4, CG4, and CF4/SH grade engine oil in winter. Use 10W-30CF4, CF4/ SG or CG4/SH grade engine oil in summer.
Maintenance of the cooling system
The function of the cooling system is to ensure that the engine operates in the most suitable condition. For water-cooled engines, the water level should be checked before starting the machine to ensure that the water in the radiator is filled up.
The water added to the water tank is best to be purified water. Purified water, after purification, can prevent the formation of scale. River water or well water should not be used because hard water contains a large amount of mineral substances, which are prone to form scale when heated, thereby affecting heat dissipation.
Antifreeze refers to industrial ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, which can lower the freezing point of water and raise its boiling point. The concentration of antifreeze should be 40%. Both excessively high and low concentrations will affect the antifreeze capacity of the coolant. Under most climatic conditions, the recommended concentration of antifreeze is 50%, and at this time, the freezing point of the antifreeze can reach -33℃.
In addition, the performance of each component such as the water tank, water pump, thermostat and fan should be frequently checked to ensure good heat dissipation.
Maintenance of the intake and exhaust systems
The intake and exhaust system is composed of an air filter, an intake resistance indicator, a turbocharger, intake pipelines, an intercooler, and exhaust pipelines, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the cleanliness of the air filter, the intake pipe should be well sealed, the intake resistance indicator should be firmly installed and reliably sealed, and the turbocharger should be lubricated with sufficient and clean engine oil.
