Byd electric forklifts help Hitachi Group achieve carbon neutrality
Hitachi GLS, a home appliance company under the Hitachi Group, has introduced its first BYD forklift, which began operation at the Hitachi GLS Taga factory (Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture) on March 1st.
As a globally renowned enterprise, Hitachi Group is striving to achieve carbon neutrality in its office Spaces and production activities by 2030. Hitachi GLS mainly operates the household appliances and air conditioning businesses of the Hitachi Group and is actively promoting various decarbonization and environmental protection activities. In July 2022, solar power generation facilities began operation at the Tochigi factory. In October 2022, the headquarters switched to using renewable energy electricity. In March 2023, the Taga factory (mainly engaged in the research and development and manufacturing of washing machines and vacuum cleaners) was the first to introduce and use the first BYD 2.5-ton electric forklift.
On the first day of operation, Hitachi Group released an announcement on its official website, stating that it will gradually introduce electric forklifts to replace the gasoline forklifts currently in operation not only at the Taga factory but also at the Tochigi factory (a cold storage vehicle development and production base) in the future. By replacing with electric forklifts, it is expected that about 520 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced annually.
Byd lithium battery electric forklifts do not emit carbon dioxide or any other exhaust gases during operation and charging. Therefore, they are not only environmentally friendly but also provide employees with a clean working environment. In addition, lithium battery forklifts support fast charging, which significantly reduces charging time compared to lead-acid battery forklifts. They also do not require daily maintenance such as water replenishment and battery cleaning, thereby enhancing operational efficiency. Since BYD launched its lithium battery forklifts, it has sold its products to about 30 countries and regions around the world.
Byd began selling lithium battery forklifts in Japan in 2015. Up to now, it has delivered approximately 500 forklifts to the logistics, machinery, manufacturing, and food industries (as of March 1, 2023). The users include well-known enterprises such as Hitachi, NTT, and Suntory Beer. Byd Forklift Company of Japan will continue to support Hitachi GLS in achieving carbon neutrality, promote environmentally friendly electric forklifts in Japan, and contribute to the Japanese government's efforts to build a carbon-neutral society.
