Several Countermeasures for the Anti-damage Maintenance of Tires on Wheeled Construction Machinery Vehicles

Tires are an important component of wheeled vehicles, and their technical condit

Tires are an important component of wheeled vehicles, and their technical condition directly affects the traction, passability, smoothness, safety, comfort and economy of wheeled vehicles. According to statistics, the maintenance cost of tires accounts for approximately 15% of the normal maintenance cost of the entire vehicle. Analyzing the causes of abnormal tire wear and taking corresponding countermeasures are of practical significance for preventing abnormal tire wear, extending service life, saving costs, improving their utilization efficiency and ensuring safe operation. This article analyzes the causes of abnormal tire wear and proposes several measures to extend the service life of tires, for the reference and practice of all customers, so as to save costs, protect machines and achieve better returns.

Abnormal wear and tear of tires caused by various factors during use is a headache for many of our driver friends. There are issues such as excessively high or low tire pressure, overloading operation, poor four-wheel alignment, rough handling due to unskilled driving by operators, unreasonable tire selection and installation, and damage from external hard objects, etc. To effectively avoid these abnormal wear and tear, we need to do the following aspects of work well

First of all, strictly abide by the tire inflation standards. After inflation, check whether each part is leaking air and regularly check the tire pressure to ensure it meets the standards. Form the habit of measuring air pressure with a barometer and do not judge it with the naked eye. Ensure that the tires have a certain degree of elasticity, so that when they are subjected to the specified load, their deformation does not exceed the prescribed range, and guarantee that the vehicle has good stability and comfort during driving. The spare tire should be inflated relatively high to prevent it from running off over time.

Secondly, it is necessary to correctly select and install tires, and use the corresponding inner tubes according to the tire specifications. Tires assembled on the same machinery should ensure the same brand, the same structure and the same performance. If this cannot be achieved, tires of the same brand, specification, pattern and type should be installed on the same axle. When replacing new tires, it is necessary to replace the entire vehicle or the same type of tires at the same time. Directional tread tires should be installed in accordance with the specified rolling direction. When changing to new tires, the new tires should be installed on the front wheels and the repaired tires on the rear wheels. To ensure driving safety, retreaded tires are not allowed to be used as steering wheels (front wheels).

Third, regularly rotate the tires. After a vehicle has been driven for a period of time, the fatigue and wear degrees of the front and rear tires will be different. Therefore, they should be swapped in a timely manner as per regulations. There are two methods for changing tires: the cross method and the cycle method. The cross-transposition method is suitable for vehicles that frequently travel on roads with a large arch, while the cyclic transposition method is suitable for vehicles that frequently travel on flatter roads.

Fourth, it is also necessary to control the temperature of the tires. During vehicle operation, the tires generate heat due to friction and deformation, causing the temperature and air pressure inside the tires to rise. When the tire temperature is very high, the method of deflating to reduce pressure should not be adopted, and even less should water be poured on the tire to cool it down, as this may accelerate the damage to the tire. You should park and rest in a shady place. Do not continue driving until the tire temperature drops. When vehicles stop during the journey or arrive at the scene, it is necessary to develop the habit of parking safely by coasting. Choose a flat, clean and oil-free ground for parking. Each tire should be placed steadily on the ground. Especially when the vehicle is loaded overnight, it is necessary to pay more attention to choosing a good parking location. If necessary, lift the rear wheels. When a vehicle is out of use for a long time, wooden blocks should be used to prop up the frame to reduce the load on the tires. When the tires have no air pressure, they should not be parked on the spot. Instead, the wheels should be lifted.

Fifth, tires should be kept away from sunlight, oil, acids, flammable materials and chemical corrosive substances. All tires should be stored in a cool, dry and dark indoor area. Tires should be placed upright and it is strictly prohibited to lay them flat, stack them or hang them in a string. The storage period shall not exceed three years. If inner tubes need to be stored separately, they should be filled with an appropriate amount of air and must not be folded, placed flat or stacked. When not stored separately, it should be placed in the outer tire and inflated appropriately.

In addition, in extremely cold regions during winter, due to the low temperature, the rubber of the tires becomes more brittle and less elastic. When a vehicle is driven again after being parked overnight or for a long time, the clutch pedal should be slowly lifted to start smoothly. For the first few kilometers, drive at a low speed and wait until the tire temperature rises before driving normally. If a vehicle has been parked on ice for a period of time, the ground contact may freeze. Be extra careful when starting to prevent the tire tread from being torn. When vehicles are parked outdoors for a long time in extremely cold regions, to prevent the tires from freezing to the ground, wooden boards or sand should be placed under the tires.
